“They had an effect on how we played,” Yemen beach volleyball Mahfoudh Adeeb said the Tianfu Morning News on Wednesday.
“I think they had something to do with our losing the game to do.”
The Yemeni men’s team lost their clash on Tuesday of an apparently more focused team from Indonesia, said the paper.
The organizers of the Guangzhou Asiad have four cheerleading squads that made each of eight girls in bathing suits, hired to live fans during breaks in the beach volleyball action, the newspaper said.
Besides cheering on the already sold-out houses, the girls perform routines to incorporate the traditional Chinese elements, including martial arts and dance enthusiast.
“These girls are very beautiful. With them here, more people pay attention to beach volleyball too,” smiled Mahfoudh.
“If I can, I hope to see them perform on the next game.”
