French football chief: World Cup debacle has undone 50 years values ”
French Football Federation president Jean-Pierre Escalettes said Tuesday that France’s World Cup debacle has destroyed “50 years of values” and the national wild escapades brought “shame” over the land.
France was eliminated after the first round for a second consecutive major tournament under coach Raymond Domenech, but it was the open conflict live on television that tore apart a once-proud team and really shocked the nation.
French players boycotted a training session in protest against Nicolas Anelka the exclusion from the squad after his curse-filled tirade was splashed across a newspaper.
“What bothers me the most when the psychodrama of the past weekend Sets. For me, crumbled 50 years values,” said Escalettes South Africa lost to France 2-1, eliminating both teams. “I’m in the shame that football brought to France … This is far worse than bad results.”
Escalettes said there is an FFF discussing cabinet meeting early in July, which have gone wrong.
“Everyone is going to the Federal Council, the President, the players, the coach, the medical staff to see who is responsible,” he said. “It will probably be penalties, but can not prejudge what the Council will decide.”
With six years of turbulent Domenech’s reign to an end, has the former French defender Laurent Blanc – a World Cup winner with France in 1998 and a European Championship winner two years later – a lot of work to do.
“The conversion done by Laurent Blanc will … a new chapter was opened,” said Escalettes. “It will not be the same team. … I have full confidence in Laurent Blanc as a man, as a coach.”
